The Championship is the home of English talent, 17 of the 23 man England squad have featured for Football League clubs and the talent pool of the league gets better every season. We name 5 Championship players who are ready to compete in the Premier League.
Jarrod Bowen – Hull City
Hereford born Bowen could be set for a January move to the Premier League, the winger has been linked with the majority of top-flight clubs from Tottenham and Arsenal, to Newcastle and Aston Villa. His Championship performances are certainly proving he’s ready for the step-up.
Bowen has scored 40% of Hull’s goals this season, scoring 16. His left foot is what get’s the majority of his goals, but he doesn’t rely on it he mixes it up by going on the inside at times, making sure defenders can’t ever really cover his threat when on the ball.
The 23-year-old has 6 assists and MOTM awards on top of the goals, every manager that has come in at Hull he has improved with, adding things to his game every season, making him all set to make a big impact on the Premier League.
Said Benrahma – Brentford
The Algerian was heavily linked with Premier League Aston Villa in the summer, but the forward stuck with Brentford and is showing why he is a must for a lot of Premier League sides.
His eye-catching skills are accompanied by influential performances and aren’t just for show. He’s got 10 goals and assists this season and averages a rating of 7.52 of the 21 games he has started for Brentford this season. It’s his all-round attacking game that is so good you can’t prepare to face a player like him, just have to hope he has an off day.
WhoScored have listed just about every attacking attribute as his strengths and it’s highly accurate and evident when you watch him, a threat when in all areas of the pitch. The BMW (Benrahma, Mbuemo, Watkins) partnership has helped him take his game to another level this season.
Eberechi Eze – QPR
Eze joins Benrahma as one of the most skilful players in the league, but the Nigerian is at a club with much less quality. The midfielder has been QPR’s best player this season by some way, averaging a 7.47 rating, Ryan Manning with 6.99 is the next best rating at the club.
Sheffield United, Southampton, and West Ham are the recent clubs linked with a move for him, £15m is the price it would cost to take him away from Loftus Road. He has 10 goals, 6 assists, 8 MOTM awards, and is compared to Jay Jay Okocha.
The 21-year-old is one of the most skilful players in England and always entertains on top of his goal contributions. He works hard and is intelligent with his ball movement and body positioning, he always knows where the opposition players are and diverts his body to secure the ball and either drive the attack or win a free-kick.
Ben White – Leeds (On loan from Brighton)
The only loan player amongst this list, last year the league had Mason Mount, Harry Wilson, Tammy Abraham, and Dean Henderson who came on loan and are all now starters in the Premier League, White, Grady Diangana, and Ovie Ejaria are the only major loan players this season, but White has been the outstanding defender in the league this season.
White has averaged a 7.12 rating this season, his passing game made him perfect to shine in Marcelo Biesla’s game. He reads the game well, allowing him to make 2.5 interceptions per game. His focus is a unnoticed part of his game, he’s always concentrating on the task at hand.
If Leeds gain promotion this season then White could return to Elland Road, but the 22-year-old has been linked with Manchester City among other clubs and certainly can feature in a lot of Premier League sides, expect to see him amongst the England 2022 World Cup squad.
Jed Wallace – Millwall
Jed Wallace is a old school winger who is deadly from crosses, set-pieces, and dangerous when shooting from range. Not the most athletic, but always a threat when on the ball.
With an average rating of 7.41, it sees him as one of the best players in the competition but isn’t get the plaudits he deserves. After a poor start to the season he has picked it up since Gary Rowett has come in as manager, 15 of his 17 goals and assists have come since the arrival of Rowett.
Millwall currently sit 7th and are underdogs in the promotion race, Wallace will play a big part if the Lions are to get promoted. The 25-year-old wouldn’t come at a price like Bowen or Benrahma and the stats show he’s been just as good as them. Top clubs need to keep tabs on him as the ex-Portsmouth youth player is making big strides in his game this season.
